Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Developer’s integrated Project Team.
The Project Team is responsible for all tasks related to engineering, permitting, planning, procurement, construction, and completion of the Port Upgrade scope.
The main scope elements are within mechanical outfitting of the port and berthing positions, building systems, mechanical outfitting of offices and warehouses, heating and ventilation, and utility interfaces towards the civil and electrical disciplines.
 
The Port Upgrade project comprises of:

  • Modifications and upgrades of the terminal site to transform the area to become an offshore wind staging port for wind turbine components
  • New facilities to be engineered, permitted, and constructed
  • Operational and Maintenance (O&M) complex with offices, berthing and warehouse to serve the portfolio of offshore wind farms
  • Onshore Substation (ONS)

Work location

  • The Project office location is in Industry City, Brooklyn, NYC
  • The Construction site is in the Sunset Park neighbourhood, Brooklyn, NYC
  • The work will be performed through physical presence in our client’s premises and at the construction site.
  • Visits to Contractor offices within NYC are anticipated.

 
Main responsibilities

  • Mechanical specialist / discipline engineer for the SBMT Port Upgrade
  • Reports to Engineering Manager on all matters (scope, design, quality, progress)
  • Liaise and coordinate our clients position with the Construction Team and End-User Representatives on mechanical and multi-discipline matters
  • Contribute to planning, cost estimation and execution of mechanical design and construction scope
  • Provide input into procurement process (e.g., invitation to tender, bid evaluation, award recommendation)
  • Actively follow up and mitigate engineering and construction risks
  • Represent the businesses position and contractual obligations in relation to main contractors, and their sub-contractors

 
Engineering phase (2023)

  • Interaction with and follow-up of Owner’s Engineer (Jacobs) design deliverables on all mechanical issues
  • Ensure documented quality of Equipment Supplier’s deliverables
  • Provide technical input as required for the permitting process for the site
  • Coordinate and resolve interface issues, internal and with contractors

Pre-construction phase (2023)

  • Interaction with and follow-up Construction Management contractor (Skanska) in planning of construction phase
  • Contribute to solving requests for information (RFIs), technical queries from Skanska and its subcontractors
  • Act as the technical specialist on mechanical aspects towards to Jacobs and Skanska

Construction phase (from 2024)

  • Follow up Construction Contractors within compliance to design
  • Follow up Construction Sub-Contractors on site to ensure deliverables meet scope of work, quality, HSE, cost, and schedule
  • Support construction field engineers and advise management on decisions within own discipline, e.g., inter-disciplinary input, site queries (SQs) and non-conformance requests (NCRs), technical queries (TQs) and variation order requests (VORs)
  • Plan and execute follow-up activities e.g., verifications and site inspection

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience from mechanical design and construction projects
  • Experience in construction, commissioning, and start-up of projects
  • Experience in one or more of these areas: mechanical, HVAC equipment and utility systems in O&M building (plumbing, sanitary, fire suppression, etc.) and mechanical furniture for ports
  • General discipline related experience within construction, commissioning, and project hand-over to the End-User
  • Experience from quality follow-up activities e.g., verifications and site inspections
  • General knowledge of relevant US regulations and industry standards and design codes, preferably from NY State and NY City
  • Good knowledge of working with risk management systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, or master’s degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferred
