Our client is pursuing a strategy to become an industrial developer and operator of offshore wind in Northern Europe, and is building a portfolio and organisation to deliver this. They take a market-centric approach to their activities, building positions where they have complementary skills in development, route to market, and operations and maintenance. They will build scale to be competitive and continue to pursue new opportunities together with their partners. They now require an Electrical Engineer to support the development of our client’s offshore wind projects in Ireland.
 
Responsibilities For The Electrical Engineer Role Include, But Are Not Limited To
•          Provide the primary electrical engineering input to the design development process for electrical engineering infrastructure on offshore wind projects
•          Provide the primary electrical engineering input in the optimisation of electrical engineering designs in all phases of projects, green field, early phase conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, construction, transport, installation and operation
•          Manage the process of preparation/submission of electrical designs to EirGrid or equivalent Transmission System Operator in the design review process for new connections to the Transmission System
•          Manage the technical aspects in the process of the preparation/submission of system studies to demonstrate grid code compliance for renewable generation projects seeking to connect to the transmission system
•          Provide technical electrical engineering input to support the consenting teams in the preparation of planning applications for offshore wind projects
•          Participate in conceptual design optioneering, cost modelling and due diligence processes, as well as technology qualification programs
•          Contribute to tender processes (e.g., setting specifications, contributing to employer’s requirements documentation) for the appointment and delivery of electrical engineering contracts for consultants and contractors
•          Proactively contribute to the early identification of risks and associated mitigating actions for electrical engineering activities
•          Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of governance documentation, technical standards and specifications
•          Contribute to our client’s engagement in offshore wind electrical engineering research and development
•          Contribute to the build-up of our client’s wider technical management capabilities in offshore wind
 
Qualifications (Essential)
•          Higher education in Electrical Engineering, preferably Master’s degree or higher, but Bachelor’s degree considered with sufficient relevant experience
•          Typically, 5-7 years of electrical engineering experience, with a focus on technical design of HV/MV onshore cables, onshore substations
•          Experience preparing or managing the preparation/submission system studies to demonstrate grid code compliance for renewable generation projects seeking to connect to the transmission system, for example in relation to power quality, harmonics and fault ride through capability
•          Experience and deep understanding of design processes in the areas of; HV and MV electrical systems design, onshore export cables, Gas Insulated Switchgear substations, harmonic filters, static compensators, shunt reactors
•          Good knowledge of the international grid codes and requirements for connecting power plants to the electrical grid
•          Capability in preparing HV cable de-rating analysis in line with IEC and other technical standards
•          Experience in managing key aspects of cable and substation projects, specifically in the construction/installation/commissioning/energisation project phases
•          Experience of preparing or managing the preparation/submission of electrical designs to EirGrid or equivalent Transmission System Operator in the design review process for new connections to the Transmission System
•          Working experience from cross functional teams and multi-company projects, in all phases of projects
•          Technical interest and drive to develop capabilities and processes
•          Fluent in English
•          Relationship builder with the ability to collaborate constructively with business and functional leaders
•          High personal integrity and high ethical standards
•          Strong HSSE understanding and commitment
 
Qualifications (Preferable)
•          Offshore electrical engineering experience, preferable from the offshore wind industry, specifically in relation to offshore substations and inter array cables
•          Experience in design and system studies of HVDC substations and cables
•          Knowledge of trenchless cable installation methods, e.g., Horizontal Directional Drilling, Horizontal Auger Boring
