EC&I - SCADA Engineer

Leading role in responsibilities for managing the design, engineering and integration of the various SCADA and control systems, infrastructure and services associated with the project to ensure that the design is successfully completed and implemented for the project. Our client has recently been awarded with the seabed lease rights to develop a 1.5 GW project in the UK. The project is in the Development Phase with the aim to achieve all the necessary consents and complete the necessary surveys and engineering to enable the project to become operational before 2030. The position is an important role within this integrated JV project team.  The position is in London with flexibility on work from home or elsewhere with regular visits to our client’s London Office (Farringdon). Occasional business travel in UK and possibly further afield may be required for this post. Our client is looking for a SCADA and Control Systems Engineer to join the Engineering team. You will work as part of the wider project development team enabling the project definition supporting in a variety of topics associated with the works. The SCADA and Control Systems Engineer will play a key role in defining the optimal solution for SCADA and Control Systems engineering work associated with the project. This role with report to our client’s Head of Technical. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and knowledge of the engineering design which is required for an offshore wind farm. Experience working in offshore wind is required.
 
Main Responsibilities
  • Preparation of technical documents/ papers for internal review
  • Preparation of employer’s requirements and technical specifications
  • Management of subconsultants ensuring that HSSE requirements are appropriately accounted for in the designs and that quality requirements are met
  • Ensure overarching cross-project approach to SCADA system design is implemented that recognizes and reflects all interfaces and dependencies
  • Ensure that the deliverables from contractors are of the right quality according to requirements
  • Provide support to the Engineering team to manage the physical Interfaces associated with the elements of the SCADA and communication systems
  • Identify and manage the logical interfaces between the systems ensuring that the data exchanges between the SCADA systems or with 3rd party systems are developed according to the project requirements
  • Develop the cross-project network and DMZ designs, identify the requirements associated with the different work packages and ensure that the communications between the local systems and with remote systems is developed according to the project requirements
  • Develop the cross-project overall FO network design, identify the requirements associated with the different work packages and coordinate the scope of the different suppliers
  • Ensure that the Project’s Cybersecurity requirements and measures are incorporated in the design of the SCADA and communication systems.
  • Develop and maintain a SCADA system design basis that reflects the cross-project approach
  • Ensure SCADA system design work undertaken for the project is undertaken using appropriate methods and is confirmed to be in accordance with applicable standards (e.g. the Grid Code) and project requirements
  • Review and develop technical specifications for all work packages and undertake technical assessment of proposals
  • Quality management of SCADA system manufacturing and commissioning/testing process across all project work packages
  • Supporting the Grid Code compliance process including coordination of testing
  • Support to the project during the FEED, Detailed Design and Construction phases.
  • Mentoring and training more junior engineers
  • Giving technical input to other project functions in your area of knowledge/expertise
  • Participation in project team meetings and cross-disciplinary co-operation
  • Contributing to project cost book
  • Participating in the procurement activities associated with SCADA and Control Systems in the project
Minimum Requirements
  • Be degree educated in engineering or a related field with approximately 10 years experience
  • Be chartered or working towards chartered status
  • Have a successful track record in the delivery of SCADA and Control Systems
  • Have strong relationship management skills
  • Have highly transferable skills from a related industry (for those without offshore wind experience)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team
Specific Role Competencies
  • Ability to carry out/ participate in optioneering to obtain the most favourable outcomes/ solutions
  • Experience with computer networks, communication systems, control & instrumentation is required
  • Knowledge of wind farm operations and the associated SCADA system and telecommunications network infrastructure requirements is essential
  • Knowledge of the standards associated with SCADA system design of grid connected power projects is essential, including knowledge of key aspects of the UK regulatory regime such as the Grid Code and STC
  • Knowledge of the design, installation and testing of fibre optic communication systems/networks is required
  • Knowledge of the design and installation of low voltage electrical systems, including associated standards, is desirable
  • Knowledge of the design and installation of control, protection and metering systems including associated standards, is desirable
  • Knowledge of electrical system design/study/analysis processes and techniques is desirable. Standards associated with electrical system design of grid connected power projects is required
