Construction Project Manager – Onshore Renewables
Purpose of the Job:
  • Lead Technical project management of multiple Onshore Wind and Industrial scale solar PV projects from contract signature / Final Investment Approval to completion, ensuring delivery on time, on budget and within agreed scope
  • Technical and commercial support during Construction contract development (EPC,FIDIC,etc), tendering and negotiation process
  • Resolution of contractual issues (both technical and commercial) during construction and early operation
  • Support to UK and wider RGBU development projects and activities as required
  • The successful candidate will inherit a pipeline of projects, allowing the opportunity to deliver an increasingly important and rapidly growing new technology. The role will operate within a fast-paced, friendly environment that offers autonomy, freedom and responsibility to innovate.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Production of detailed project budget, alongside the business development lead
  • Development, tendering and negotiation of Construction contracts (EPC,FIDIC etc), alongside the business development lead
  • Develop, control and manage the project schedule and ensuring all assigned projects and tasks are completed their scope, on time and budget
  • Manage the relationship with the Principal contractor and with other key stakeholders (DNO, Owner’s Engineer, Landowner, Local Council, Optimiser)
  • Liaise with EPC site manager, site staff and Owners Engineer staff , track construction progress, conduct site visits, and prepare progress reports
  • Perform risk assessments and proactively solve any technical or commercial issues identified
  • Ensure that Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental standards are delivered
  • Ensure availability and allocation of resources
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Handover of the project to the operations and maintenance team
  • Provide further support to UK and RGBU development efforts where required. Examples of potential additional support include:
  • Contribution to due diligence efforts for project acquisitions or developments
  • Contribution to CAPEX and OPEX benchmarking for future projects

Outcome, Results and Key Performance Indicators:
  • High safety performance on Projects at all times
  • Successful project completion with ‘zero harm’
  • Efficient EPC/FIDIC (or equivalent) contract tendering, delivering the best possible value and meeting timetables
  • Successful project commercial operations, on time, on budget and within agreed scope
  • Minimised impact of commercial claims (cost and programme)
Dimensions of Job:
  • The position will be required to work on multiple projects across the United Kingdom and Ireland
  • The position will work on construction projects typically with CAPEX >£30m
  • The position will be required to co-ordinate team members, external contractors, and resources identified to deliver the projects
  • The position will require coordination with the Renewables UK team
  • Location: Preference for London, but may be flexible dependent on project pipeline
Knowledge and Skills:
The job holder will have:
  • Detailed understanding of project management for electricity related construction projects
  • Understanding of EPC,FIDIC (or equivalent) structures and tendering processes
  • Ability to proactively work to deadlines on multiple projects concurrently
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 with advanced knowledge of power-point, excel, MS Project and SharePoint
  • Understanding of Operational and maintenance requirements of onshore wind and solar PV systems and equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of Constriction Design and Management Regulations and Irish Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations
Experience:
The job holder will have:
  • Significant experience in project management of electricity related construction projects ( 5 years +)
  • Experience in UK/Ireland for onshore wind and Solar PV projects is an advantage
  • Experience with EPC/FIDIC procurement processes and resolution of ongoing contractual issues
  • Capable of performing in a high workload, short deadline environment and delivering the expected business outcome
Qualifications:
  • University Degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, Prince II, MBA) is an advantage
