Role Responsibilities

  • The C&I PV Design Engineering Manager will be an integral part of the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Generation Team, situated within the Development Directorate. Their role will encompass leading the Design Engineering team to provide comprehensive support for projects across their entire lifecycle, spanning from origination through construction and into operation.
  • Our C&I Generation Team is dedicated to providing onsite energy solutions to large industrial and commercial clients. These projects typically involve the construction and direct integration of energy solutions into client-owned sites, with project sizes generally ranging from 200kWp to 25MWp.
  • As part of the C&I team, the PV Design Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional PV Solar Engineering services. They will consistently demonstrate their ability to add value in a fiercely competitive and ever-evolving marketplace, all while upholding the highest engineering and quality standards. Their contribution is crucial to maintaining Engineering Excellence in our PV Solar Projects, especially as we experience rapid growth and diversification across various technologies.
  • The PV Design Engineering Manager, with the support of the Director of Development, will take the lead in designing and approving high-quality solar systems in support of my clients' overarching C&I business objectives.
  • One of their primary responsibilities will be fostering a collaborative and positive working culture within the C&I engineering team, capitalising on synergies and efficiencies that benefit the entire organization.
  • In addition to their C&I engineering role, the PV Design Engineering Manager will establish and nurture relationships across the clients in the UK, as well as with the broader company internationally. They will also cultivate external relationships with our supply chain, industry organizations, technical standards bodies, academic and research institutions, and a wide network of contacts. This effort aims to enhance, promote, and protect our brand and activities, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of our endeavours.

Key Accountabilities

  • Health and Safety: Ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety are maintained with a Zero Harm approach throughout the entire project lifecycle. This includes prioritizing the safety of all personnel and stakeholders involved.
  • Technical Expertise: Conduct complex site assessments and evaluate project feasibility based on solar resource potential and site constraints. Design efficient solar PV systems, optimising component layout and sizing for maximum energy production to drive business success. Prepare and manage: technical specifications and requirements; PV Solar Yield Assessments, Design Layouts, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), and optimization recommendations.
  • Hands on Design Engineering Leadership: Lead Design Engineering activities for solar PV project support across the entire project development lifecycle, from origination to operational status. Provide learning opportunities, oversight and upskilling to engineering team members (direct reports).
  • Design Standards: Continue to develop and improve design standards and processes to enhance delivery efficiency, consistently challenging and refining technical assumptions against industry best practices.
  • Documentation Review: Thoroughly review, provide comments on, and accept design studies, designs, drawings, specifications, project plans, method statements, risk assessments, quality plans, and other relevant project documentation – produced by contractors or engineering team members (direct reports).
  • Governance, Risk Management, Reporting: Provide governance and oversigh while actively managing risk for PV Solar assets, ensuring their successful performance and longevity. Generate and deliver regular reports as required, keeping stakeholders informed about project progress and performance.
  • Technical Support: Address technical queries raised by team members, contractors, and suppliers, offering solutions and expertise to overcome challenges.
  • Commissioning and Site Support: During the construction phase, provide critical support for the commissioning process of PV projects. In the operational phase, deliver site support and quality assurance services for PV Solar assets.
  • Contractor and Supplier Management: Support or lead in the management of PV Solar consultants, contractors, and suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring the successful execution of projects.
  • Engagement and Representation: Actively engage in internal team meetings and committees, participate in external stakeholder meetings, and build a robust support network within the broader business. Represent my client in external meetings, industry bodies, tradeshows, and conventions to enhance the company's presence and reputation.
