AI in Recruitment: A Tool That Helps Us Stay More Human

By Morad Bantal, Director APAC.

AI isn’t coming. It’s already here, and it’s changing just about everything. From how we shop, to how we work, travel, and make everyday decisions, AI is becoming part of the background of our lives. It’s fast, it’s powerful, and it’s easy to feel like the pace of change is outpacing the human side of things.

Recruitment has felt this shift too. With the tools we now use, we can find talent faster, screen CVs faster, and understand job market trends in ways that would have taken us weeks not long ago. And in a region as complex and fast-moving as APAC, that extra speed has real value.

But what’s become even clearer is this: the more AI is involved, the more important it is to stay human. That’s where the real value in recruitment still lies. The best placements don’t come from matching keywords. They come from conversations, from listening, and from understanding the bigger picture, things like the team, the culture, the timing, the person behind the CV.

By letting AI take care of the more repetitive tasks, we’ve freed up more time to do the part of the job that matters most; building real relationships with clients and candidates. That’s where we see the biggest impact, and it’s where we plan to keep investing our time and focus.

How We're Using AI Today

We’ve added AI into a few key parts of our day-to-day work, and it’s made a real difference. It helps us spot talent faster, especially in markets where skills are in short supply. It’s improved how we screen CVs, find patterns, and start conversations.

Some of the things we use it for:

  • Quickly mapping out who’s available across the region for hard-to-fill roles
  • Screening large volumes of CVs so we can focus our time on the strongest profiles
  • Improving outreach for better engagement with passive candidates
  • Giving our consultants, clients and candidates real-time insights into salaries, hiring trends, and market shifts

All of this helps us move faster and smarter, but it doesn’t change the heart of the job. Our consultants still do the real work of connecting with people, understanding what they’re looking for, and guiding both sides of the hiring process.

Where Technology Stops and People Take Over

AI can take us far in the recruitment process. It helps surface relevant profiles, identify technical matches, and reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks. But when it comes to understanding what makes a person right for a role, and what makes a role right for a person - technology alone isn’t enough.

Things like willingness to relocate, communication style, motivation, and long-term fit cannot be captured by algorithms. These are the conversations that still need to happen face to face, or at least person to person. This is where real recruitment begins.

The ability to recognise potential, uncover concerns, and guide both clients and candidates through important decisions comes from experience. It comes from listening closely, reading between the lines, and asking the right questions at the right time. These are not tasks that can be automated. They rely on empathy, understanding, and human connection.

That’s where we add the most value. Not by relying on tools alone, but by combining them with the kind of insight that only comes from doing the work with people at the centre. No tool can replace the kind of judgment that comes from years of working in the field.

What This Means for Recruiters

Recruitment is no longer just about sending CVs. Clients expect more. They want insight, support, and a partner who understands what’s happening in the market - and what’s coming next.

That’s why we’re developing our team to be more strategic, more advisory, and more confident with data. We’re not using AI to replace the recruiter. We’re using it to give them more time and better tools to do what they do best: build trust, understand context, and help people make decisions that last.

The recruiter’s role is shifting, but it’s not going anywhere. If anything, it’s becoming more important.

What Candidates Should Know Too

This change affects candidates as well. AI tools are now part of most early-stage hiring processes, which means it’s more important than ever to present yourself clearly. A well-written CV that includes the right skills and language really helps you stand out; not just to a person, but also to the systems that help flag you as a strong match.

But beyond that, the most important step is still the conversation. Whether it’s a recruiter reaching out to discuss a role, or a candidate asking for advice on the next move, that human connection is where the real opportunity starts. AI may open the door, but people are the ones who move things forward.

Looking Ahead

Like all other businesses, we’re going to keep using AI to work smarter and faster and allowing us to deliver better results. But more than anything, we’re staying focused on the relationships that sit at the heart of what we do. That’s where our time, attention, and care really make a difference.

As APAC’s renewable energy market keeps growing and changing, the need for strong partnerships will only increase. We’re here to be that partner; informed by technology, but always grounded in people.
